Resolutions for 2023
Oliver Leaver-Smith <oliver@leaversmith.com> on 2022-12-20 08:50:27
As we approach the end of yet another wonderful year, it's time to reflect on what needs to change. Yes, one can make a change at any point during the year, but as we transition from one calendar year to another it feels right to look inward.
This year I have three specific areas that I want to improve and focus on. For want of a better word let's call them resolutions.
- Plant-based eating
- Cut out bread
- Exercise daily
Plant-based eating
I suspect this will be a big one for people this year. Veganism is on the rise and although this is a resolution, it is a return to my optimal diet. I have been a far better vegetarian than vegan; while I have strayed this year by eating dairy, I have not regressed to eating animals.
Cut out bread
Bread tastes delicious, but it doesn't agree with me and it isn't a healthy food to be consuming every day. The best case is that I cut it out completely, but I will be happy if I manage to choose alternatives when in a pinch (e.g. porridge instead of toast, rice and veg instead of a sandwich)
I think pasta is probably as bad as bread but I don't actually eat pasta all that much so it doesn't feel right to base a resolution around it.
Exercise daily
I am leaving this undefined, so this could be a bike ride, or a resistance session at home or the gym, or even a relaxing yoga session. I feel better when I exercise but I have taken my eye off the ball and am back in the mentality where I have to force myself to exercise rather than wanting to do it just because.
Adherence to this resolution has the additional benefits of physical fitness improvements, increased spirituality (I do most of my best thinking when on a bike, plus the yoga...), and better mental health.
Feel free to check back in one year to see how well I stuck to these
All the best for 2023
